More information about the Port of Malaga

The Port of Malaga is located on the Mediterranean, on the South coast of the Iberian Peninsula. It is protected by a natural bay and it is situated at 4° 25’ W and 36° 43’ N. The prevailing winds are South, South-East and generally weak. It currently has a flotation area of 7,095 hectares and a land area of 1,150,884m2.

Managed by the Malaga Port Authority, it is a commercial Port, with facilities for passenger ferries, cruise ships, a marina and a fishing harbour.

It was modernised about 20 years ago, in accordance with the Port of Malaga Special Plan. This plan has allowed enhanced public use of the Port creating a lavish palm grove and an extensive space for retail and restaurants, also hosting the Pompidou Centre Museum of Malaga and a advanced cruise-ship terminal. These modern facilities mean that the Port of Malaga is a leading Spanish port for cruise-ship passengers in the Mediterranean, standing behind only the ports of Barcelona and the Balearic Islands.
